A healthy life together found at Marisol Health

Adalis and Abrahan spend time together with their son outside Marisol Health in Denver.

Adalis and Abrahan wanted the best for their baby, so they went to Marisol Health for help.

The 20-year-old discovered she was pregnant after taking a test in a Wal-Mart restroom. Adalis knew she needed support. At first, she didn’t tell her boyfriend, Abrahan, also 20.

“I was just worried and scared about what I was going to do,” she said.

She and Abrahan, attended classes together at William C. Hinkley High School in Aurora and began dating during their senior year. When Adalis discovered she was pregnant, the pair was determined to grow their relationship and provide a healthy life for their child.

Through her doctor at University Hospital, Adalis heard about Marisol Health. She wanted a trusted counselor who could help her overcome a battle with anxiety and depression. The friendly and compassionate staff met with her weekly and biweekly throughout her pregnancy. Abrahan was also assisted with studying for his GED. They were connected to local food banks and the resources needed to prepare for a life with their baby boy.

“I already had a doctor. I just needed someone to talk to,” she said. “I felt safer after coming because they helped us find a good path.”

Abrahan, who left behind habits of drug abuse, said, “I think we’ve improved a lot. We feel more confident about our plans for all of us.”

The couple welcomed their son, Geronimo, now 5 months old.

“I cried,” he said. “It was a really happy moment for me.”

They attend Mass together in Aurora and are determined to have the best life together—Abrahan is studying for his GED test and has aspirations to advance in a career. Adalis wants to complete a college degree in early childhood education. She continues to receive counseling from staff at the Denver location.

“I want to be healthy for him. Marisol is really helpful. Being a mom makes me happy,” Adalis said.
