Legalized marijuana and a broad cultural acceptance of drug use have been "disastrous to our society," said Archbishop Aquila in his pastoral letter "That They May Have Life," released Nov. 10, 2023, and published to the Archdiocese of Denver's website. A United Witness for Life: Archbishop Aquila Affirms Respect Life Denver

In early 2026, Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila offered a powerful affirmation of Respect Life Denver, calling the ministry’s work “essential” to the life and mission of the Church in Northern Colorado.

At the heart of his message is a truth that guides Catholic Charities and the Respect Life Ministry every day: human life is sacred from the moment of conception to natural death.

“In every age, the Church is called to proclaim and defend this truth with courage, compassion and unwavering fidelity to the Gospel,” Archbishop Aquila wrote to the faithful of the Archdiocese of Denver.

That call is not abstract. It is lived out in parishes, schools and homes across our community — and through the work of Respect Life Denver, a ministry of Catholic Charities.

A Ministry That Walks With Families

The Respect Life Office serves as a visible witness to the dignity of every human person. Through education, prayer, pastoral outreach and advocacy, the ministry accompanies women, men and families facing difficult circumstances.

Whether supporting a mother navigating an unexpected pregnancy, equipping parishes to lead prayer vigils, or forming Catholics to articulate the Church’s teaching with compassion and clarity, the ministry reflects a consistent ethic of life rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Every life — regardless of age, ability or condition — bears the image and likeness of God. That conviction shapes every conversation, every resource and every moment of accompaniment.

A Call to Participate

Archbishop Aquila urged pastors, deacons, parish leaders and lay faithful to actively support and collaborate with Respect Life Denver. The invitation is simple but profound: be part of building a culture where every human life is cherished and protected.

Parish Respect Life committees, educational initiatives, prayer opportunities and practical support for mothers and families in need are all ways individuals and communities can make a difference.

“When we work together,” the Archbishop emphasized, “our collective witness to the sanctity of life is strengthened across Northern Colorado.”

Commitment Goes Further

This commitment to life is strengthened by Catholic Charities’ continuum of care through Marisol Services: Marisol Health, Marisol Homes and Marisol Family. Together, these ministries provide wraparound support for women and families at every stage — from pregnancy and medical care to housing, parenting education and long-term family stability.

Support can be as comprehensive as prenatal care and safe housing, and as simple, but essential, as diapers, formula and a listening ear. By meeting practical needs with compassion and clinical excellence, these Catholic Charities ministries ensure that choosing life is met with real, tangible support. It is a living expression of our belief that every family deserves not only hope, but help.

Unwavering Support

Archbishop Aquila has long stood firm in his commitment to the sanctity of life, and his leadership has shaped this work in enduring ways. A steadfast supporter of Marisol Services, he has marked important milestones alongside us, from celebrating the opening of the Marisol Health clinic in Fort Collins to blessing the launch of Marisol Health Mobile.

Throughout his tenure, he has joined Catholic Charities to celebrate Mass and speak at gatherings such as the Beacon of Hope, which supports the women and families we serve. His faithful presence at Eucharistic processions and his public leadership in advancing initiatives that defend the dignity of life reflect a conviction he continues to proclaim clearly: a true culture of life is lived through accompaniment, compassion and faithful witness, honoring every human person from womb to tomb.

Building a Culture of Life Together

The work of Respect Life Denver is not only about advocacy. It is about hope. It is about ensuring that no woman feels alone, no family feels unsupported and no life is dismissed as lacking value.

As we continue this mission, we entrust our efforts to Mary, the Mother of the Living, asking her intercession as we bring the light of Christ to every corner of our community.
