When Amanda first walked through the doors of Marisol Homes, she carried more than just the weight of her pregnancy. She had been living out of her car for weeks, doing her best to stay safe, to eat, to find rest—but the loneliness and fear were beginning to eclipse her hope. What Amanda needed was stability, love and a chance to rebuild. She found all three at Marisol Homes.
At Marisol, Amanda was welcomed not as a problem to be solved but as a woman with dignity and purpose. With a warm bed, nourishing meals and prenatal care, she was finally able to breathe. Through case management and one-on-one support, she began to heal from the wounds of her past and prepare for motherhood. She met with the behavioral health specialist regularly—sometimes tearfully, sometimes reluctantly, but always leaving with more strength than she came in with.
Marisol Homes is a ministry of Catholic Charities of Denver that offers long-term, stable housing for pregnant women and single mothers experiencing homelessness. Along with safe shelter, the program provides wraparound services like behavioral health counseling, case management and life-skills support, empowering women to build a stronger foundation for themselves and their children.
Years later, Amanda is now a proud graduate of Marisol Homes and part of its alumni program. Life still has its challenges, but Amanda isn’t facing them alone. She continues to meet with the behavioral health specialist, someone who knows her journey deeply and reminds her of how far she’s come. At Christmas, she receives gifts for her daughter through Marisol’s giving program—a little extra magic during the holidays that reminds her she’s still part of the community. Diapers and other essentials are available when things get tight, and Amanda knows she can always call for help without shame.
Today, Amanda is raising a curious and joyful little girl and preparing to graduate with her EMT license. She’s building a future with purpose and passion, determined to help others the way she was once helped. Amanda is living proof that healing takes time—but with the right support, transformation is possible. Her story is still being written, but it’s already one of grace, resilience and hope.
