A simple pair of shoes can make a meaningful difference in the life of a child. Thanks to the generosity of Horizon Family Brands and its employees, 80 pairs of children’s shoes will support children and families served by Catholic Charities across Colorado.
The Broomfield-based company recently organized a shoe drive after connecting with the Catholic Charities Corporate Engagement team and learning more about the needs of the community. Over the course of two and a half weeks, employees collected 80 pairs of children’s shoes, surpassing their original goal.
“We wanted to get our employees to give back to the community and this was a great opportunity for us to do so,” said Sandy Boh of Horizon Family Brands.
The effort quickly became a company-wide project. Employees purchased new shoes, involved their families in the process and found creative ways to contribute. Some shopped with their children and explained who the shoes would help, while others ordered shoes online or donated gently used pairs their children had outgrown.
“People really enjoyed it,” said Deborah Finestone of Horizon Family Brands. “It was a great way for us to engage our local employees.”
As the drive progressed, excitement continued to grow.
“We were really excited, especially as we were hitting our goals and we exceeded the goal that we set,” Deborah said. “Our company loves a good challenge and, like I said, a great way to give back to the community.”
After delivering the shoes to the Catholic Charities Samaritan House warehouse, Sandy and Deborah toured Samaritan House to learn more about the programs and services available to individuals and families we serve. The donated shoes will be distributed across Catholic Charities ministries, helping children access a basic necessity that supports their comfort, confidence and well-being.
Horizon Family Brands manufactures and sells organic milk and other organic dairy products and has been in business for more than 30 years. The company also shared its hope to continue supporting Catholic Charities through future donation drives and volunteer opportunities.
“I’m thankful we met with you guys and we’ll keep supporting you for another drive and a couple of volunteer events this year,” Sandy said.
Catholic Charities is deeply grateful to Horizon Family Brands and its employees for their generosity and commitment to serving children and families throughout Colorado.
