Girl Scout Troop Donates Cookies to Samaritan House

Girl Scout Troop 65753 in Thornton is helping make life a little sweeter for the people served at Samaritan House.

During this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program, customers had the option to purchase cookies for a charitable donation. Those contributions were then turned into cookie boxes that the troop could donate to a nonprofit of its choice. This year, the troop selected Samaritan House and donated approximately 200 boxes of cookies.

The annual donation program allows Girl Scout troops to support organizations that align with causes they care about. For Troop 65753, the decision was rooted in a desire to support women in the community.

“We wanted to support women and specifically women in shelters and (Samaritan House) was a really great place,” said Shannon a scout with Girl Scout Troop 65753.

Shannon explained that the donation is made possible through the generosity of customers who choose to purchase cookies for charity during the cookie sale.

“Every year during cookie sales, each Girl Scout troop chooses a charity or a nonprofit to donate their cookies to and then when we get donations from everyone buying Girl Scout cookies, we collect, we turn that into actual boxes of cookies, and we give it to a certain nonprofit,” she said.

The donated cookies will provide a special treat for the individuals and families staying at Samaritan House while demonstrating the impact that young people can have when they come together to support their community.

Catholic Charities is grateful to Shannon, Troop 65753 and everyone who contributed through the Girl Scout Cookie Program for their thoughtful gift to Samaritan House.
