“Kinship Services was my first contact. I told them about my story. The emotional support—that is the biggest thing for me now. Our situation is more unique than others. My grandson was six months old when I started caring for him. My daughter had no interest in parenting. Then she met another man and later found out she was pregnant. He never supported the pregnancy. My granddaughter was born, and she’s been with me on day one. They’re now six years old and one year old. I was looking for resources and was referred to Catholic Charities. Since then I’ve attended the Kinship groups regularly. It’s nice to know this isn’t just my household that’s dealing with this situation. They also helped me with clothing and schooling. The gifts for Christmas (through Adopt-a-Family program) are a huge help, too. Things are not the way I wanted them to be. But I can’t fathom not having my grandchildren around. I’m stepping in quite a bit when it comes to parenting. This is me doing the best I can.”
