Family finds quality education, support amid trauma
"We are a family of eight with 4 boys and 2 girls. At first, we were very cautious about enrolling all our kids (in public schools) with all the negative stuff happening. We instead decided to send them to Mariposa Childhood Center’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs. We have been very happy and pleased with the results our kids have shown every day. Our children’s speech has improved a lot. It puts a smile on our face to see them so enthusiastic to go to school or to tell us the things they learned.
"I serve on the Head Start Policy Committee and took the lead to get more fathers engaged in the center. Then my wife and I got in a car accident this year and went through rehabilitation and surgeries while balancing the needs of our children. Mariposa was so understanding. They let us drop the kids off a little early some days and understood if we came late after a doctor’s appointment. We communicated well with each other.
"Our hopes and dreams for our family is that they grow and become good people, not only to themselves, but others as well. We really hope to be good role models for them. Catholic Charities has been there to support us. There’s so much they offer and a lot of people just don’t know. I would give them my heart if I had to. If it wasn’t for Mariposa, I wouldn’t know what I would do. I really appreciate all they do for my family. It’s an awesome place."
