When Bill and Bobbi exchanged vows in 1984, their hearts were full of hope and excitement for all that lay ahead. When illness entered their lives, everything changed plans were paused, routines were rewritten, and love had to become stronger, steadier and more selfless than ever before.
Early in 2025, Bobbi began searching for ways to bring more joy and connection into her husband’s life. Now, as his full-time caregiver, she watched him steadily decline with dementia. She wanted to find a place where he could stay active, socialize and engage in meaningful activities outside of their home while also giving herself a bit of time to rest and recharge.
Using the Senior Blue Book, Bobbi discovered Catholic Charities’ Mulroy Center for seniors conveniently located nearby. After speaking with the center’s program specialist, Rodrigo Araya-Guerra and touring in person, she immediately felt at ease. The warm, welcoming environment and the variety of activities offered seemed like the perfect fit.
Bill now attends Mulroy with the aide of a part-time caregiver, who helps him get around the building and participate in the activities. Spending time at Mulroy on Wednesdays has become a bright spot in his routine – a time to get out, enjoy the company of others and participate in programs that support his well-being. When he’s there, Bill takes part in chair yoga, interacts with other participants and enjoys expressing himself through art.
For Bobbi, those Wednesdays have also become a small but meaningful gift. She uses the time to care for herself—running errands, taking a quiet break or simply sitting on the patio in the sun. “It’s good for him to get out and be around others,” she shares. “And it’s good for me too. I am grateful for the time to recharge.”
