In just 90 minutes, four Blue Federal Credit Union employees helped make Samaritan House Fort Collins a more welcoming place for the neighbors who turn to Catholic Charities for shelter, stability and support.
Samaritan House Fort Collins provides emergency shelter for women and families, along with extended-stay shelter and supportive services for men, women, families and veterans as they work toward greater stability.
The employees volunteered as part of Blue Federal Credit Union’s larger service day, completing cleanup from a painting project previously started by a middle school mission trip group. Their work brought care and dignity to the space while taking a significant project off the shelter staff’s list, allowing employees to focus more fully on serving guests and residents.
For one member of the group, the morning also marked a meaningful return.
Colin worked as a Catholic Charities shelter associate 16 years ago, when Samaritan House Fort Collins was known as The Mission. His connection to the ministry inspired the group to choose Samaritan House for their service project. Throughout the morning, he reflected on how much the shelter had changed and how encouraging it was to see the ministry’s growth and transformation.
The Blue Federal Credit Union volunteers helped strengthen the environment where that work takes place. Their service was practical, but its impact extended beyond cleaning up a painting project. A well-cared-for space helps every person who walks through the doors feel welcomed, valued and treated with dignity.
The morning also showed how much a corporate group can accomplish without specialized skills or a full day of service. With four willing volunteers and a shared desire to help, the team made a visible difference for both shelter guests and staff.
