All moms have dreams for their children. Jennifer was no exception.
She was worried—escalating troubles at home caused her to fear for the safety of her young son. She fled, leaving California, to start a new life with him in Colorado.
“I was scared, because I had no family here,” said the 47-year-old mom.
When their lease was up, she moved them to a motel. With no job and empty pockets, she needed help to start a new life. Then Jennifer heard about Marisol Homes. The staff welcomed her and her son, making them feel right at home.
“I was really nervous to go in, but I was made comfortable,” said Jennifer.
Jennifer was paired with a case manager who helped her establish benefits and find permanent housing. And she also lovingly challenged Jennifer. Had she ever thought about going to college? Jennifer didn’t have the opportunity after graduating high school. At 47, Jennifer thought she was too old. Her case manager encouraged her and she enrolled at Red Rocks Community College to study sociology.
Four months later, Jennifer moved out of Marisol Homes and into housing with her son. In May 2018, Jennifer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and is pursuing a master’s degree at Metro State University. Her goal is to help others in need.
Jennifer discovered that in order to have a dream for her young son, she also needed to have a dream for herself. She overcame her issues of low self-esteem and was able to earn a college degree and that happened thanks to you, our beloved donors.
“Marisol Homes made a big impression on my life,” Jennifer said. “I left with self-esteem, responsibility and an education. They supported me in everything. I’m very blessed to have been at Marisol.”
In honor of all the mothers in our lives, will you make a gift today and help others like Jennifer start a new life?
