Why Saint Teresa of Calcutta?
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now St. Teresa of Calcutta, provides a perfect example for how we must pursue our own mission here at Catholic Charities. She constantly insisted that “everything begins with prayer.” Ultimately, it was her prayer that strengthened her to love like God and to serve like Christ as she tirelessly served the poorest of the poor. She is the perfect model for us!
What do members do?
Members are asked to pray for Catholic Charities and those we serve on a daily basis. New members will receive a prayer card to guide them in their daily prayer, along with a St. Teresa necklace medallion, which will serve as a reminder of their commitment to the society.
General intentions will be emailed to Society members once each month, and specific intentions will be emailed as necessary throughout the year. Catholic Charities will accept members’ prayer intentions and offer them during our weekly Mass in our chapel. They will remain near the tabernacle for several days after having been presented.
September: Support for Family & Senior Services
One of the most wonderful gifts of life is to grow up within the loving relationships we call “family.” Through the love and concern of grandparents, parents, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, cousins, and in-laws, we develop our own personality and cultivate a sense of belonging. St. Teresa of Calcutta quickly made it clear in the words she spoke and the statements she wrote that family life is to be honored and held in high regard. She reverently draws our attention to unborn infants in the mother’s womb, growing children at home, adventurous teenagers who she calls “youth,” as well as adults and older people. Her thoughts about family life are briefly summarized in the book, In My Own Words.
"Love begins by taking care of the closest ones---the ones at home. Let us ask ourselves if we are aware that maybe our husband, our wife, our children, or our parents live isolated from others, do not feel loved enough, even though they may live with us. Do we realize this. . .?"
Through Family, Kinship, and Senior Care Services Catholic Charities of Denver reaches out to families and individual members of families to offer the love that transforms isolation into belonging. Senior Services helps older adults maintain safe, quality and independent living. We assist older adults to age in place with dignity and respect. The Kinship Caregiver Program supports caregivers of all cultural and faith backgrounds who are raising their relatives’ children due to circumstances such as the death or illness of the biological parents, drug abuse, or incarceration. Catholic Charities joins with every family in need.

Help us to appreciate the diversity of every person in our homes. As members equal in human dignity, may we build a better world and proclaim our willingness to be the holy people you call us to be. We ask this in the name of the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
