Why Saint Teresa of Calcutta?
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, now St. Teresa of Calcutta, provides a perfect example for how we must pursue our own mission here at Catholic Charities. She constantly insisted that “everything begins with prayer.” Ultimately, it was her prayer that strengthened her to love like God and to serve like Christ as she tirelessly served the poorest of the poor. She is the perfect model for us!
What do members do?
Members are asked to pray for Catholic Charities and those we serve on a daily basis. New members will receive a prayer card to guide them in their daily prayer, along with a St. Teresa necklace medallion, which will serve as a reminder of their commitment to the society.
General intentions will be emailed to Society members once each month, and specific intentions will be emailed as necessary throughout the year. Catholic Charities will accept members’ prayer intentions and offer them during our weekly Mass in our chapel. They will remain near the tabernacle for several days after having been presented.
August: Change to Serve
St. Teresa of Calcutta was no stranger to change. She left her home at the age of 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto. After serving as a teacher for almost twenty years, she answered God’s call to serve the poorest of the poor by starting the Missionaries of Charity. During her adult life she was known as Mother Teresa of Calcutta. In eternal life she is called St. Teresa of Calcutta, the patron saint of the poor. All the changes she made were supported by her love for Jesus and her prayer.
Like St. Teresa of Calcutta, Catholic Charities of Denver is no stranger to change. On August 8th, our Gabriel House Project started in 2009 is changing its names to “Marisol Family”. Our services will continue to provide families with material assistance and education. They will continue to be located at Catholic parishes where families who need a hand up are welcome to receive the resources and supportive care that they need
St. Teresa of Calcutta,
Though your willingness to change, God guided your hands to serve the poorest of the poor. With your assistance, help Marisol Family to meet the needs of families in name, in place, and in resources.
Amen.
