Cycling Team expects 100+ riders for The Denver Post Ride The Rockies and other events
Denver (Jan. 17, 2018) — Over the past seven years, Team Samaritan House cyclists have raised more than $500,000 for Catholic Charities’ homeless shelters throughout northern Colorado. The team is gearing up to raise an additional $500,000 to top $1 million in donations by 2019 by recruiting more riders and participating in additional events.
The team started with six riders in 2000 and grew to 45 in 2017. This year, Team Samaritan House — the largest single team in The Denver Post Ride The Rockies — is seeking 100 riders for that event June 9 - 15. The team is encouraging sign-ups by Feb. 3. More information and registration is at samhousedenver.org/rtr.
All those interested are invited to a team kick-off Saturday, Feb. 17, at Station 26 Brewing Co., 7045 E. 38th Ave., in Denver. That event will take place after a 3 p.m. tour of the nearby Samaritan House Women’s Shelter.
To achieve its million-dollar goal, the team is also participating in other Colorado cycling events including, but not limited to: Subaru Elephant Rock, June 3; Triple Bypass, July 14; The Denver Post Pedal The Plains, Sept. 14 – 16; and Icon Eyecare Tour of the Moon, Sept. 29.
“Our partnership with Ride The Rockies through The Denver Post Community Foundation has been a blessing to each rider and our ability to fundraise over $500,000 for Samaritan House,” said Tom Schwein, captain of Team Samaritan House. “By extending our reach to other cycling events, we can welcome more riders who want to support the homeless shelters by training for one of the rides while enjoying the camaraderie of the team.”
“We cannot thank Team Samaritan House enough for what they have done for the homeless,” said Larry Smith, president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver. “Our mission is to provide the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to the poor and those in need. Team Samaritan House is with us every step of the way.”
