Joan’s Story
Helping Joan and Her Baby to Safety
Joan came to Colorado from out of state, fleeing an abusive relationship. She arrived at her father’s house with her infant daughter, and within several months, was forced to take over her father’s lease.
Joan quickly found a part-time job in order to pay the new bill. What she didn’t expect were the many residency costs that came with taking over the lease. Fees associated with documentation, insurance and other necessary licensing compounded bills associated with her separation and custody battle.
The part-time job could not fully cover the growing bills. She soon fell behind on rent, with little sympathy from her landlord. With a preliminary eviction notice in hand, Joan frantically asked for help .
Joan was scheduled to start another job the week following her appointment with our office. Catholic Charities was able to pay the remainder of her rent, and negotiated with her landlord to stop the eviction process.
Joan has slowly risen out of her crisis situation, and feels confident in her ability to sustain a sufficient income moving forward!
