Celebrating Tracy Harper: Pro Bono Recognition

Tracy Harper, a dedicated immigration attorney at our Catholic Charities immigration ministry, has been recognized with the esteemed 2024 Michael Maggio Memorial Pro Bono Award by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Tracy’s commitment and exceptional leadership, particularly in her oversight of the Afghan and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) projects, have earned her this prestigious honor.

As the driving force behind the Afghan Legal Services Project, she has played a crucial role in providing vital legal assistance to Afghan parolees resettled in the State. Despite the challenges arising from the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, her determination has ensured that hundreds of Afghan families receive the support and representation they urgently need.

Beyond her role in the Afghan Legal Services Project, she has shown dedication to serving diverse immigrant communities. Her initiative in contributing to large-scale TPS clinics, aimed at helping new immigrant arrivals to Denver obtain protection and authorization to work lawfully in the U.S., demonstrates her commitment to expanding access to justice for in need populations.

Her leadership extends beyond her professional duties. She actively encourages her peers in the legal community to engage in pro bono work, emphasizing the importance of supporting immigrant communities across the nation.

“I want to encourage all attorneys to get involved with a project near you,” Tracy emphasized. “Our work is valuable, and everyone’s help is needed.”

Tracy’s receipt of the 2024 Michael Maggio Memorial Pro Bono Award is a testament to her leadership, advocacy and dedication to advancing justice for vulnerable immigrants in the state.

We at Catholic Charities celebrate Tracy’s well-deserved award and offer appreciation for her contributions to the immigrant community.
